Ramiro Valdés assesses METUNAS tasks for recovery of Block 2 of the Felton Thermoelectric

The Paco Cabrera Metal Structures Company, commercially known as METUNAS, has the executive projects ready to start manufacturing the elements that makeup Block 2 of the Lidio Ramón Pérez thermoelectric plant, in Felton, Holguín, as soon as the necessary materials arrive.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- This was confirmed by the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, also Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, in a new check on this task -of the first order for the country-, who insisted on the need to comply in detail with the production process for this purpose.

In a meeting with directives of METUNAS, the Deputy Prime Minister was graphically informed about everything that has been done in the redesign of that unit, which is vital for the stability of the National Power Grid, and reaffirmed the need to comply with the work schedule to achieving an essential objective for the country; so nothing can fail in terms of fulfilling the task.

The also Hero of the Republic of Cuba was interested in the conditions of the workshops, the qualified labor force, and the planning of the work shifts; besides, he urged to work rigorously and with the confidence that each one of the deliveries to the Felton thermoelectric plant will be fulfilled on schedule.

METUNAS professionals have ready the technical preparation and the redesign of the plans of what has to be done in the Holguin thermoelectric plant, in an extremely complex task that involves the manufacture of all the roof beams, from which the boiler and the dome, as well as several columns and platforms, the main braces and other lateral structures that were completely affected by the fire.

Albert Joseph Bisset, METUNAS’ executive director, said that the projects are already completed and adapted to every detail of the generating block and progress has been made in each of the planned phases; they are waiting for material resources, metals and the necessary steels to begin manufacturing, with the workshops organized and the workers committed to this task, determined to work rigorously to meet the plans in each stage.

METUNAS' schedule to have the structures ready could be concluded in about three months, with the work support of several companies also engaged in meeting that objective.

Block 2 of the Felton thermoelectric plant was devastated by a fire on July 8, which has seriously affected the National Power Grid because, at full capacity, it can generate 250 megawatts.
