Las Tunas' Provincial Defense Council meeting

The members of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP, by its Spanis acronym) learned about the work of the Las Tunas Military Region on various issues that affect the political-moral state of the population and the defensive capacity of the territory.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Among them, the fulfillment of the plans of the Theater of Military Operations stands out, with the construction of some works and the promotion of reforestation, an activity of great importance since it facilitates concealment, the means for masking, construction materials for defensive works and food, besides to become obstacles for the enemy means of combat and transportation.

Manuel Pérez Gallego, Chief of the Defense CouncilIt was reported that seedling production will begin for this purpose and 35 hectares are expected to be planted. On the subject, the president of the CDP, Manuel René Pérez Gallego, said that it is imperative to sow and guarantee survival amid a prolonged drought.
He indicated designing projections in the short, medium, and long terms to have water available and illustrated the current circumstances with the fact that this liquid is delivered through tank trucks to some 130,000 people and 30,000 head of cattle.

This context may be transformed in the coming days, as explained by the vice president of the CDP, Jaime Ernesto Chiang Vega, who announced the upcoming installation of 156 pumping equipment, almost all of which are powered by photovoltaic solar panels.

At the meeting, the actions carried out in the territory to prevent and deal with possible forest fires in the vicinity of high-voltage power lines were reported; among them, the creation of a command post and the activation of rapid response brigades.

Some 58 kilometers of these facilities pass through the municipalities of Manatí, Las Tunas, and Majibacoa and nine guards systematically watch over these structures, while the production units are diagnosed and involved in the surveillance of 331 towers and 19 centrifuged posts.

They also discussed the registration and recruitment process for the call to Active Military Service and Voluntary Women's Military Service, the construction status of some service areas, and the installation of electricity and telephone services in those locations.

Finally, the activities planned for the year of preparation for the defense, the study meetings, and the days dedicated to practical activities were reported, and Meteoro 2023 Popular Exercise, planned for May, was announced.
