May exceeded its historical rainfall average

The province of Las Tunas closed May with an accumulated average of 218.6 millimeters (mm) of rainfall, a figure that is above the historical average (145.7 mm) and constitutes excellent news during the cruel drought that usually accompanies these lands.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Reports from the Provincial Meteorological Center state that, although the heaviest rains fell in the last days of the month, the first heavy downpour was on May 1st itself, with 52 mm falling in the town of San Martín, belonging to the municipality of Manatí.

May exceeded its historical rainfall averageThe stage included a severe local storm in Jobabo, on the afternoon of the 12th, with electrical discharges, rains, and strong winds, causing trees to fall, and affecting the electrical and telephone networks and infrastructure.
Experts report that the historical average rate of rainfall at the Las Tunas Meteorological Station is 165.3 mm and the total accumulated rainfall recorded for the month was 274.5; while in Puerto Padre, it was 233.7 mm, compared to a historical average of 134.8.

Figures such as the 105 mm of rainfall reported in the locality of Farola (Puerto Padre), another 120 in Vega de Mano ("Jesus Menendez"), and the 176, 7 mm fallen in Guayabal, 103, 8 in the "Amancio" Weather Station and 105 mm in San Alberto, also in that terroir of southern Las Tunas, are among the main reports of rainfall in the stage in the province.

May, the first month of the rainy season, was, therefore, favorable in these lands; a prelude to a stage in which hopefully a lot of water will continue to fall from the sky.
