The heavy rains damaged the production of flowers

That this Sunday, Father's Day, the workers of Community Services in Las Tunas put up for sale just seven thousand dozen flowers, a figure well below what was sold on the second Sunday of May (Mother's Day), it is the result of the heavy rains in recent days.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Esteban Rojas Correa, a deputy director who attends the flowers and plants program in that entity; explained to the Radio that the weather situation ruined all the insurance and care work that was being carried out in the territory.

"This Sunday we intended to do something similar to last Mother's Day when many flowers were marketed and even left us in stock. We received very good opinions from the population; but the rains came and damaged around 50,000 dozen fine flowers and some 80,000 seasonal ones, which are used for obituary services.

"It is no secret to anyone that when the flowers are in gardens, in full production, heavy downpours deteriorate them greatly; and that happened, not only in Las Tunas but in a large part of the country."

"The seedbeds were damaged, with the sole exception of the municipality of Majibacoa; we are working on the recovery, as soon as possible, of the staggering in the gardens to guarantee obituary services, which are extremely sensitive."

The manager said that prices between 50.00 and 100.00 pesos are maintained this Sunday, prioritizing points of sale in the cemeteries of the municipal capitals.
He also said that offers include decorated flowers, cushions, bouquets, and other arrangements, mainly of roses, sunflowers, lilies, and velvet and Zinnia flowers.
