Las Tunas is one of the richest provinces in the country in terms of the production of construction materials with endogenous elements, which to a certain extent speeds up the completion of housing plans. One of the elements that make it strong is the production of clay for the elaboration of bricks and clay pieces.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the visit of the authorities of the Ministry of Construction (MICONS, by its acronym in Spanish) to the province, they were able to determine the high potential that exists in terms of obtaining this raw material, which can be used in the waterproofing of roofs, the manufacture of bricks and roof tiles... Add to this the labor force, which is also one of the best on the island.

Using local potters is the best method to give free rein to manufacturing, "because during the onslaught of Hurricane Ian, it was demonstrated that the only province that produces construction materials by hand is Las Tunas, which was responsible for making the colonial tiles for the roofs of much of the province of Pinar del Rio, to preserve its architecture," said Pablo Enrique Paneque Almaguer, director of the Maintenance and Construction Company of the territory.

So, if the best clay in the country is in Las Tunas, and the potters capable of working it with professionalism are also there, it is up to the directors to provide training so that its uses are better known, how to handle it, and to incorporate it more frequently in our local production of materials.
