The salt industry, in Puerto Padre, secured this and next year's production.

A total of 252 workers make up the collective of the Las Tunas Salt Industry basic business unit (UEB in Spanish), located 52 kilometers from the head of the municipality of Puerto Padre, who have made the necessary merits to be proud of their productive management.

Las Tunas.- The geological engineer Maikel García Reyes, technical manager of the salt mine, told the press: "The UEB has raw material in our plateaus, that is to say, open-pit stored, which gives us the peace of mind that we did not have years ago. Today we have salt for this year and next year.

And although for many the intense sun can be a problem, for those who work at the Puerto Padre salt works it is a blessing, because, with the increase in temperature, much more salt crystallizes. "This gives us the possibility to have larger inventories, also to seek international commitments, which we are already working on, in addition to fulfilling our national orders."

Nobody is spared from difficult times, and for those at the Salinera, the main problem lies in transportation, due to the lack of tires and batteries in the country, which sometimes makes it impossible for them to meet their commitments, but the salt is there.

"Today the electrochemical plant, despite these ups and downs with transport, maintains its coverage, which frees the country from worries about securing this fundamental raw material for the production of chlorine. This allows us to focus on our social purpose, which is to supply salt to the population.

"Our largest deliveries are in the province, but we have also had commitments with other provinces, which have had problems with stability; we have taken on deliveries to Sancti Spíritus, Villa Clara, and Cienfuegos, as well as maintaining local volumes."

Among the entity's projections is the opening of a free point of sale in the main municipality, for which the first steps are already being taken.
