Las Tunas Salt Industry does everything possible to improve the working conditions.

Close to celebrating the tenth anniversary of the National Union of Energy and Mines Workers, those who work at the Salina Las Tunas basic business unit (UEB by its acronym in Spanish), located in the northern part of the province, and are doing everything possible to improve the working conditions of those who work there.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The directors of the UEB have made every effort to maintain transportation to the unit, and due to the 52 kilometers that are traveled to get there, two bus routes were assigned, the same that support workers in other sectors, taking into account the complexity of transport in the country.

Supporting the communities of La Boca and La Llanita during the elections, and later exchanges with young people; as well as with the pioneers in the schools to show them the importance of the work they do, is part of their actions in the neighborhood, said Yoel Pérez, secretary of the UEB trade union bureau.

The collective bargaining agreements, echoed within the entity, seek to stimulate workers with the means at their disposal, in addition to providing them with greater utility.

Geological engineer Maikel García Reyes, technical manager of the salt mine, explained. "Today we are carrying out stimulation actions that years ago were not allowed, we can give workers with a good performance basic means that have already fulfilled their useful life within the entity, and they can reuse them.

"It is also part of this agreement to establish pay-for-performance systems as part of the 43 measures that cover the sector. Through it, we can stimulate employees who are very creative and support the recovery of means of transport and work.”

Another element that makes them enhance their union performance lies in the change of work they do by moving towards self-consumption, a necessity for the country and them as a company.

"It was stopped for a while, but it was important to take it up again because of the complex situation we are going through as a nation."

"We can say that today we have hectares in preparation, they are practically fenced, there is around 20 percent that has been plowed, and the rest is pending due to fuel flows, as we don't always have the totality. We also have short-cycle seeds to start planting.

The sale of food modules to the workers, consisting of rice, and some food from self-consumption, among other products, has been one of the benefits.

The salt industry workers are committed to what they do, and the fact is that "we cannot allow an island to lack salt, that the country has to invest money in importing it. Today this is not the case; there is also coverage in other salt works on the island to reach the entire population.”

Las Tunas Salt Industry already guaraanteed this year production plan.
