Flag for 10th anniversary of the National Union of Energy and Mine Workers.

Every September 18, the National Union of Energy and Mine Workers celebrates its day, which celebrates ten years since they ceased to be the National Union of Chemical and Energy Workers.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Stories, shared efforts, experiences, and projections have marked the work of these men and women, 2,310 members from the electricity, oil, mining, and salt sectors, who assume a high responsibility for the nation's socio-economic development.

Each labor collective commemorates the date, and the Tenth Anniversary Flag, which was handed over by the secretary of the union in the province of Holguín to the union leaders of Las Tunas, in a ceremony held at the Electricity Company, where a solemn tribute was first paid to the martyr of the sector, Ñico López.

At the ceremony, the highest distinction awarded by the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers in Cuba was presented to Yusline Bárcenas Martín, of the base business unit of the Territorial Fuel Marketing Division  (CUPET Las Tunas), for her talent, creative initiative, and outstanding career.

Recognition was also given to the outstanding trade unions for their performance during this period, to Las Tunas Power Company for winning the Economic and Productive Management Award 2023, and to the two founders of what was once called the National Chemical-Energy Workers' Trade Union.

To conclude the meeting, the secretary general of this union in the province, Reinier Limonta, read out the letter of recognition sent to the workers of the sector by Vicente de la O, Minister of Energy and Mines, in which "the unity with which they worked during the past 2022 is recognized, a year in which Cuba experienced complex moments in terms of climatic damage in parallel with a reinforced blockade, as a fundamental obstacle to our performance, which has not been a reason for discouragement."

"Let this letter serve to make it known that the points made by the workers were analyzed and turned into a group of measures that demonstrate the systematic attention, follow-up, and evaluation by the management of the ministry and of each company."

A call was also made to continue the work rigorously, not look for easy solutions to the significant problems that may arise, and to maintain the commitment and dedication to a better future.
