Their challenges of the agricultural workers are enormous

The proclamation of the second Agrarian Reform Law, on October 3, 1963, was the date chosen to celebrate the Day of the Agricultural Worker, a day of more commitment and work in the field than with celebrations.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Really - and without wanting to justify the lack of many items on the table of the population of Las Tunas - the last few years have been very difficult for the raising of various animals and the planting of grains, viands, fruits, and vegetables.

But this is a humble sector dedicated to their daily work, those that begin at dawn and do not end, because many spend the nights in vigil, taking care of their resources. Nor do they believe in the dictates of nature and risk planting, even though the drought forecasts are very serious.

In addition to this phenomenon, the territory is marked by the poor quality of more than 80 percent of its soils and an evident shortage of fuels, fertilizers, and inputs. Faced with these difficulties, farmers grow and apply various alternatives.

These are men and women who are not standing idly by. On the contrary, they are seen in the middle of extensive fields or carrying out other activities, since they are also in charge of animal or plant health, logistics, the design of new areas, poultry farming, and many other tasks.

Their challenges are enormous. They even grow with the passage of time and the implementation of the Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security Law, which promotes local agricultural production to have in each community most of the food demanded by its residents.
