Cane cutting at fields belonging to the Majibacoa sugar mill

Cane cutting has already begun in supply areas of the Majibacoa sugar mill, which announces the imminent start of the 2023-2024 harvest in the eastern province of Las Tunas, whose production plan amounts to more than 61 thousand tons, the highest in the country for the current contest.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Engineer David Puig Brito, director of the agro-industrial company, confirmed that they opened the fronts in areas of the Grito de Yara sugar mill (Río Cauto, Granma), which must supply about 70 thousand tons; and in the municipalities of Manatí and Majibacoa. At the same time, they plan to incorporate the south of “Jesús Menéndez” into this activity in the coming days.

Puig Brito assured that when it has the necessary raw material to maintain the milling, two days for the maximum, the industry -declared ready, as well as the agricultural machinery- will begin the production to complete some 22,208 tons.

The Antonio Guiteras Colosus, in Puerto Padre, still without a tentative date to start the campaign, will support in the supply of raw materials. Harvesting machines are entrenched in Santa María 11 (“Jesús Menéndez”), waiting for the humidity of the fields to allow them to enter into operations.

This was confirmed by engineer Ilán Delgado Vázquez, the director of the Antonio Guiteras sugar agro-industrial company, who announced that when the evaluation commission certifies the factory and machinery with the “ready” condition, they will undertake the harvest.

In pursuit of reaching this moment, managers and workers in the sector have faced and overcome numerous obstacles related to limitations of some resources such as fuel, tires, batteries, and other inputs that have altered planning, acknowledged engineer Rafael Pantaleón Quevedo, director of Coordination and Technical Supervision of the Azcuba Group in the province.

He explained that they also have to resolve the deterioration of the sugarcane roads, affected by the recent rains in the northern area, whose rehabilitation will be carried out according to the cutting schedule; as well as the lack of fuel and lubricants.
