ETECSA has renewed the infrastructure that supports cell phone communications

The Territorial Division in Las Tunas province of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba S.A. (ETECSA) has maintained the development of cellular telephony despite the limitations resulting from the combined effect of the US economic blockade and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- From August to date, the company renewed the infrastructure that supports cell phone communications. Among the actions in this regard, the three BTS installed in the municipalities of “Amancio,” “Jesús Menéndez” and Manatí stand out; of which those located in the first two territories are already supported in the third generation of this technology (3G). Etecsa executives anticipated that soon, the one located in the city that saw Barbarito Diez grow will also have 3G.

In the short term, they affirmed, the situation of mobiles that try to establish a phone call or send a message in the vicinity of the town of Marañón, also in Manatí, should improve; when a micro BTS enters into operation there. Something that, incidentally, will benefit the coverage in that area of the road that leads to the Brisas-Covarrubias Hotel.

Other good news that could come in the coming weeks is related, they said, with the rise to the fourth generation of their technology from the radio bases of various municipalities outside the provincial capital. If the plans are fulfilled, 4G would be extended to those in Puerto Padre, “Jesús Menéndez” and “Amancio.”

Until the end of August, in Las Tunas, more than 80 devices were operating between radio bases and micro BTS that make it possible to link cell phones. Taking that same date as a reference, more than 230 thousand mobile lines are active in this territory; there are already more than six million in Cuba.
