The Wax Plant belonging to the Majibacoa Agroindustrial Sugar Company, in the eastern province of Las Tunas, maintains the commitment to supply this raw material to the National Center for Scientific Research (CNIC) for medicines manufacture.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- It is known that refined wax derived from sugar cane is one of the components of Policosanol (PPG), but its use in the pharmaceutical industry is more comprehensive.
Arnaldo Echavarría Alonso, director of the plant, explained exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that two tons of wax were marketed in the most recent shipment this year, in addition to other quantities in the elaboration of products such as shoe polish, candles, and soaps.
During his visit to the municipality of Majibacoa this month, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the Republic, visited the plant laboratory and highlighted the value of the wax for its use in drug production, and even for export.
Echavarría Alonso added that they have a reserve of raw wax - a source for extracting the refined product - but the plant is undergoing repairs for ten million pesos, and two million in freely convertible currency.
He specified that the group is working to ensure that this unit, the only of its kind in Cuba, is ready next August.
