The protection of resources and material goods is a priority

A set of organizational measures have been implemented in Las Tunas to reduce as much as possible the material and human impacts to the passage of Tropical Storm Laura through the territory at night and early morning, as reported at noon today in the Provincial Defense Council.

One of the main actions is the estimated evacuation of more than 76,400 people from possible flood zones. Of this figure, more than 59 thousand in the homes of relatives and neighbors; and the rest, in shelters.

Thousands of tons of food have been protected in warehouses and commercial units; thousands of head of cattle have moved to higher ground; possible crops for human consumption have been harvested.

The generating sets are ready for their possible use in the event of power shortages, and vacationers were returned to their homes from villas and Popular Camping facilities in the province.

The eight Municipal Defense Councils and all those of the zones were also activated, together with multiple working groups in different instances of the Las Tunas society, with the express mission of doing whatever is necessary to try to minimize the damages.

Manuel Pérez Gallego, president of the Provincial Defense Council, urged that the population kept informed about the evolution and trajectory of the meteorological phenomenon and that they strictly comply with the Civil Defense guidelines to avoid human and material losses.
