Ensuring future sowings for self-sufficiency is one of the objectives

Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture in Las Tunas works to incorporate large vegetable growers, associated with other forms of production, with the aim of increasing this food in the diet of the province population.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Víctor Santos Ramírez, head of the Program in the territory, told the Cuban News Agency that, in addition, they work together with the popular councils to establish points of sale and thus bring them closer to families, an initiative that limits the figure of intermediaries.

Puerto Padre highlights among the municipalities that develop this modality the most, where horticulturists maintain a stable supply to the population, and Amancio and Majibacoa, are also recognized for the good work they do.

Santos Ramírez assured that they are currently working to increase the conservation of seeds, with the purpose of ensuring future sowings for self-sufficiency and guaranteeing the embryo of the plantation, without having to depend on exogenous factors, as has happened repeatedly.

During the period of confrontation with the COVID-19, part of the Agriculture personnel took a break in their work due to their advanced age; and the organoponics, the intensive gardens and the plots were strengthened by workers from Education, Sports and Tourism, who were disconnected from their usual tasks.
