The Draft Labor Code has now reached labor collectives, where consultation meetings are being held with all workers, who have the opportunity to contribute their experiences to the creation of a legal framework adapted to the transformations experienced by the Cuban labor market.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- To ensure the quality of the consultation process, the Cuban Workers' Federation (CTC) developed a program for the preparation of union cadres. The consultation began with the provincial pilot meeting, attended by a broad representation of workers from the Construction and Assembly Company (CONALZA).
The attendees were accompanied by Osbel Lorenzo Rodríguez, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party(PCC) in the province; Marbelis Mir Corrales, a member of the PCC Executive Bureau at that level; Arianna Cruz Pérez, a member of the Cuban Parliament; members of the Provincial Secretariat of the CTC and the municipalities, and the general secretaries of the unions in the region, legal experts, and representatives of the Directorate of Labor and Social Security.

Lorenzo Rodríguez urged the workers to study the document in depth and take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the elaboration of a vital Law, given its scope in the legal system of labor matters, which compiles decrees, resolutions, and other legal instruments approved recently.
During the exchange, several participants expressed their opinions on matters related to multiple employment, income, training stages for new professionals, and procedures regarding material liability, among other matters that were discussed and would be reflected in the final draft of the document.
This Tuesday, the corresponding pilot assemblies were held in the municipalities, and the unions at that level will hold similar meetings as part of their preparation, said Dagmara Peña Sánchez, member of the Provincial Secretariat of the CTC.
The labor leader recalled that the program includes 1,891 meetings in workplaces, and described the process as an act of worker democracy, "because, together, we will build the updated legislation, in line with the transformations experienced in the Cuban labor structure and the emergence of new economic actors in the non-state sector, to which it extends its benefits," she emphasized.
She explained that the CTC and its unions have worked to ensure the organized participation of all workers and emphasized the imperative of proper preparation.
The new Labor Code resulting from this consultation will apply to all workers, regardless of the sector in which they work; and also, to any employer, including non-state management and their obligation to comply with the law, Olgalidi Alapón Travieso, an expert from the Legal and International Relations Directorate of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), told the press.
