Acinox lacks raw materials to manufacture steel billets.

The Economy Plenary Session was recently held in Las Tunas, chaired by Osbel Lorenzo Rodríguez, first secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Juana Yamilka Viñals Suárez, deputy governor.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the working day, party and government authorities, along with the directors of all agencies in the territory, conducted an exhaustive analysis of the physical production of each entity.

The deterioration in aggregate extraction in August and September, due to a lack of fuel, was one of the problems discussed. This has given rise to concern among builders because they couldn't fulfill their plans.

“If we manage to improve this indicator, we can begin manufacturing asphalt. We have the fuel and the workforce to fulfill this state mandate,” said Maikel Brito Peña, general director of the Las Tunas Construction and Assembly Company (Conalza in Spanish).

In terms of food production, the lack of soybeans limits the manufacture of some dairy products. On the other hand, the food industry is committed to fulfilling orders for items such as crackers and noodles. It could vary its offerings, but the lack of essential raw materials, such as flour and sugar, makes it impossible to increase and diversify its products.

The largest industry in the territory, Acinox Las Tunas, faces a complex situation with the availability of raw materials for the fabrication of steel billets, its main line of business, which is currently at a standstill. The metal structures company Comandante Francisco (Paco) Cabrera has seen its imports affected, especially in the last six months.

This meeting allowed assessing the particularities of each sector, as well as identifying potentialities, pinpointing the causes of non-compliance, and drawing up strategies to ensure the implementation of production plans.
