The Provincial Bureau of the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC) called for the International Workers’ Day celebrations, which on this occasion will focus on labor groups and communities, from the premises of the Francisco (Paco) Cabrera Metal Structures Company (METUNAS), recently awarded as National Vanguard.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Leobanys Ávila Góngora, head of the Provincial Committee of the CTC, commented to 26 that, although the country is going through a complex epidemiological context, the event will not be overlooked, which in Las Tunas has always had the meaning of a people’s party.
Under the slogan “United We Make Cuba,” the festivities share the motivation to reaffirm the support to our social system; as well as the advent of the 60th anniversary of the victory of Playa Girón. The largest meeting of workers in the country comes some days after the 8th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party of Cuba, and we will be very aware of each plenary session to ratify its agreements."
"We urge the people of Las Tunas to commemorate the Day of the Proletariat, strictly complying with the established sanitary protocols, but with the enthusiasm that characterizes this territory, the cradle of traditions and great heroes."
The secretary of the CTC in the territory stressed that the date is not exclusive to the workers and, as it is usual, it will be celebrated together with the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), and other organizations in which the vigor of all the people is contained.
“We want to multiply the scenarios to commemorate the date. It is about putting creativity so that the pandemic does not weigh down our festivities. We will take advantage of every space to ratify the support of the working class for the socio-economic transformations that Cuba is experiencing, which in the current scenario have been subjects of defamation from various digital platforms,” Leobanys said.
To show the achievements of the different labor groups was also convened, taking advantage of social media and its new communicating forms.
The festivities, which will also commemorate the 110th anniversary of the birth of Lázaro Peña and the 95th of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, will be the opportunity to recognize groups and workers who have excelled in fulfilling their work tasks and also honor those who stand out the most in the confrontation with COVID-19, and the effort to keep the economy vital.
In the province, as in the whole country, volunteer workdays were called. On Las Tunas, they will go to 16 agricultural productive poles, several organoponics farms to promote food production and positively impact the amount per capita that reaches the population.
Fulfilling the social distancing, the combatants of the town will receive the symbolic embrace and homage; as well as the stimulation to the movement of innovators, pride of the Las Tunas workers movement, will be held.
Recognition for Labor Heroes, decorations, blood donations, and many other activities have been planned by the CTC secretariat in the province, as part of the program of celebrations for May Day.
