Yordanis Montejo Vargas is one of those peasants who, just by speaking, reveals his passion for the land. For almost 13 years he has not known what rest is. When you talk about work with him, his words describe the job; while his mind, charged with energy, does not stop thinking about other projects.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- This is confirmed by the associates of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes credit and services cooperative (CCS), from the capital municipality, which Yordanis directs with responsibility and example. "Before, our unit did not reach almost 500 thousand liters of milk in the year, but we all made an effort and, in 2020, we were the second in the province to reach one million liters collected for the industry."
This president goes around his estates motivating the guajiros. He spends his time “strapped” with the production of more than 57 hectares and about 1,800 pigs, which weigh average between 110 and 112 kilograms. He has been facing the furrow long enough to live convinced that "in this hustle and bustle things may be scarce, as is the case today, but work can never be lacking", he refers and says while reveals himself to be eternally dissatisfied.
“We learn a lot from the University. We are currently venturing into vermiculture to prepare the almost 27 hectares dedicated to feeding animals. We insert ourselves into artificial insemination and we bet on the white zebu breed, which produces more meat and milk. The Pasture and Forage Station also collaborates with us. We are always working on the improvement of pastures and the change of each crop.
“In 2021, we proposed 200 liters over a million and 180 tons of beef; we will achieve both goals. Likewise, we want to maintain a good index of the yield of various crops; at the same time as sustaining the contribution of pork, with which we excel in the country.”
Montejo Vargas is excited about the new measures approved to stimulate food production. “The price of milk is very good. My cows average about five liters per day and due to the livestock results I am among those authorized to slaughter cattle.”
He has the gift of being fair and tireless and due to his career, he was recently selected as a National Vanguard producer.
“Every day, something must be done in favor of the land, which is translated into food for the people and other prioritized destinations. Much remains to be done, but this Revolution can count on us because the cooperative members of the ‘Carlos Manuel de Céspedes’ work tirelessly and always go for more, ” he concluded.
