Collection of solid waste in Las Tunas.

Faced with the atmospheric contingency that summoned the people of Las Tunas in the last hours, Communal Services has been very active in Las Tunas, especially in the collection of solid waste, and even when the tropical storm Elsa did not affect the territory, this activity is prioritized in the municipalities in which waste was generated to ensure collective hygiene.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Grisel Alonso, its provincial director, assured 26 that during the information phase they worked on the collection of tree branches that the population pruned for the safety of their homes. She pointed out that so far the activity has been reinforced with the contribution of carters and tractors.

The directive emphasized that alternatives are being sought to put into operation the 13 funeral cars in the province. She argued that, during the storm, the pertinent arrangements were made to guarantee service; but with only seven vehicles running, the demands of all municipalities are not met.

“We have set ourselves the goal of preparing a funerary truck for the transportation of victims of COVID-19. We want the staff to be highly trained with the biosafety protocols and disinfection of the vehicle before and after its use; in such a way that we do not incur in the transmission of the epidemic and, at the same time, we can guarantee this painful service to the families.”

Alonso assured that, together with the Transport Company and with the help of specialized workshops, they will soon be able to complete the park. Despite the limitations with fuel, Communal Services adopts strategies to perform all its tasks with efficiency and stability, according to the needs of Las Tunas’ population.
