The recent provisions approved in the country to boost food production constitute an essential transformation for development

The recent provisions approved in the country to boost food production constitute an essential transformation for development and a contribution to food security, officials of the Ministry of Agriculture said, who evaluated how it has developed, up to date, the implementation of the 63 measures in Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During a tour of the eight municipalities, Idael Torres González, head of the Department of Materials Reserves, and Reynaldo Cuba Medina, the vice president of the Agricultural Group, exchanged with producers, managers, and representatives of several companies involved in these regulations, to know the advances and the main concerns, fundamentally of the 13 of immediate application.

After the comprehensive analysis carried out, Cuba Medina valued, in a summary meeting, that "progress is being made in the province, however, there is still much to do in terms of working with producers." Besides, he stressed the need for "all organizations that have a direct relationship with farmers to honor what is established, so that the measures meet their objectives and are reverted to more products in the markets."

Meeting with officials of the Ministry of Agriculture The managers expressed that, during the exchange with the producers to know their opinion on the changes in the agrarian policy of the country, many of the concerns were linked to the contracting of milk, the production of cheese by farmers who live far from the points of storage, and the non-payment of 15 cents in freely convertible currency (MLC) for the liters delivered over what was agreed upon.

However, deficiencies were also detected in marketing, the approval of new points of sale for farmers, the delay in authorizations for the slaughter of larger cattle, and the marked delay in the creation of MLC cards for producers, an essential factor so that they get the payment that currency.

"The implemented measures in Agriculture are to boost food production, not to create obstacles," the representative of the Agricultural Group said. We have to make the processes move forward, flow, make the procedures feasible, and pay what is contracted to be able to demand a better performance later. It is also necessary to promote productions here, to prevent them from being brought from other territories, and thus lower costs,“ Reynaldo Cuba said.

The provincial delegate of Agriculture, Yoel Martínez Vargas, stressed that new mechanisms will be assumed in the territory to efficiently speed up the implementation of the provisions and, for this, it is necessary to constantly resort to the production bases.

The regulations were designed to stimulate, increase, and market much more with our efforts and potential; and in that aspect, there must be a real cohesion between all the factors to achieve such a result, the delegate analyzed.

In the summary meeting, Reynaldo Luis Rivero Álvarez, member of the Party's Provincial Bureau in the province, acknowledged that “the country's leadership has worked to eliminate the obstacles that prevent greater food production, and these 63 measures are the reinforcement of the economic and social strategy of the agricultural sector. Each one has to be enforced by all the involved organizations so that they are sustainable, the producer has a guarantee for what he delivers, and the food is not diverted.”
