Putting science and knowledge in favor of new actions to continue to take ground from the pandemic, which constitutes an unprecedented challenge for human beings, is a task of the first order for the workers of the Biological and Pharmaceutical Laboratories Business Group (Labiofam) in Las Tunas.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The epidemiological situation of this province, mainly in the last period, has led this company to design new strategies, to contributing to the fight against the new coronavirus in the province.
In dialogue with 26, Osvaldo Pérez Vega, the director of the entity, reported that besides increasing assortments such as hand sanitizer, chlorine bleach, and sodium hypochlorite, they have also made donations to various health institutions and isolation centers.
“Since the pandemic entered our country, LABIOFAM Las Tunas has not rested and constantly seeks formulas and alternatives to face it. We have created many products with local inputs and focused on making an antibacterial lotion to disinfect the hands, and we succeeded.”
They have carried essential products to the different neighborhoods of the capital city when the restriction of mobility and services was imposed due to the rise in positives for COVID-19. “We went to the communities and provided them with the products. Honey with vitamin C and hand sanitizer were those in greatest demand,” the manager said.
All these proposals are developed without abandoning the institution's state productive commitments, including the monthly production of 30 tons of bioproducts to favor soils, plants, animal health, and thus mitigate the deficit of imported fertilizers.
Besides the production of efficient microorganisms to reduce pollutant loads in oxidation lagoons, coasts, and other sites, we contribute with the non-state sector to the protection, hygiene, and safety of food through the fumigation with indigenous products so that their premises are free of insects and rodents.
Together with the Wholesale Medicine Marketing and Distribution Company (EMCOMED), LABIOFAM tries to generate production linkage, substitute imports, and guarantee natural assortments for the Cuban Health System. Likewise, they produce the hydrolyzed for domestic poultry farming, "this is a stimulant of recognized quality, so we encourage the families to have at home a fundamental food for the diet of poultry animals", explained.
"With the gradual advance of Cuban vaccines, there are encouraging signs at the national level; however, we must continue with the main measures referring to physical distancing, the use of masks, and disinfectant lotions as self-responsibility tasks," reiterated Osvaldo Pérez.
“In the latter, referring to substances to avoid contagion, such as disinfectants, anti-catarrhal products, and against respiratory infections, LABIOFAM Las Tunas can be counted on. We are going to continue providing products and services to the people and we will not rest looking for alternatives of everything we can do to face this terrible disease, together."
