Las Tunas - Although there is still no date for the reopening of the Zoo-Amusement Park recreational complex of Las Tunas, both entities are undertaking several revival actions, including the repair of some structures and the design of others.

The change of image is progressing favorably, according to its director, Roberto González Reyes, who informed that since the beginning of the year -when they moved from the Directorate of Cleaning and Garbage Collection Service to the Cuban Zoo Enterprise- they have been working together with the Agricultural Projects Enterprise.
In order to provide greater comfort, the specialists of this center design the cafeteria and the ranches, while working on the modification of the exhibitors. These must comply with the requirements established for the welfare of each species.
González Reyes explained that the Amusement Park is in a complex situation, because it has not yet been possible to maintain the equipment and this prevents the certification for the start-up when it is decided, depending on the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Since July 7, the three-phase electricity service was withdrawn, which is the one required by all the equipment, and the electric company has not yet reestablished it. At that time the transformer bank was removed because it was giving failures and a small transformer was placed that only guarantees public lighting.
"Those devices have not been working for a long time and although they seem to be well preserved, it is urgent to review them in order to provide a quality service when operations are resumed."
Meanwhile, the Zoo presents a more favorable situation, because even in the midst of mobility restrictions, its workers kept visiting the facility to give systematic attention to the 476 animals of 45 species that live in that enclosure.
"In all this time we have prioritized the cleaning of the cages and the different areas, health care and, especially, feeding, one of the main problems that existed and that has been transformed for the better, with a stable supply.
"From Havana we receive a supply of 10 types of specialized feed and in the case of viands, fruits and other vegetables we have agreements with suppliers of the territory, which comply perfectly. For carnivores, Las Tunas Agricultural Company guarantees their nutrition".
The reanimation works in the recreational complex will define the date of its reopening and will have an impact on the creation of more propitious environments to, in the long term, increase the number of animals on exhibition, which will bring joy to the children and families of Las Tunas.
