The ACTAF influences the development of sustainable agriculture on agroecological bases.

The training of the various actors in the agricultural sector involved in the planting of various crops, pastures, fodder, tobacco, and timber trees is the fundamental mission of the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forestry Technicians (ACTAF, by its acronym in Spanish).

This organization, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, is entirely dedicated to the exploitation of the land, with an important technical and professional potential that influences the development of sustainable agriculture on agroecological bases.

The 1,286 members in the province of Las Tunas include technicians, specialists, scientists, teachers, students, and men and women who work the land to produce food while protecting natural resources.

Precisely to meet the demands of the population, the ACTAF has promoted training in agro-food value chains, marketing, and exports, as well as pest management in crops of agricultural interest and medicinal plants.

The Master of Science Yoandry Ávila Igarza, ACTAF's provincial president, informed that priority attention is given to the vocational training of young people and the systematization of work in polytechnics and universities because that is the guarantee of the future.

He added that there are also constant exchanges with 15 students in their first, second, and third years of agricultural engineering, who are motivated by the contents inherent to forestry, agroecology, and forestry development.

The ACTAF is committed to food sovereignty through its training role in agricultural activity and food production, not only for farmers and state workers in the sector, but also for all those interested in seeking advice for establishing crops in backyards, plots, and other areas.
