Lack of hygiene threathens health in Las Tunas neigborhoods.

Community hygiene has become a real problem in Las Tunas, to the point that there are landfills in any area and neighborhood of the provincial capital.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to assessments by the Provincial Council of the People's Power, there is inertia and lack of sensitivity, and in general, the Community Services Company lacks an effective and sustainable work system and acts when indicated by higher organizations. Therefore, this activity has experienced a deterioration throughout the province.

The lack of hygiene occurs, first of all, due to the absence of solid waste collection but also due to social indiscipline that is not attended to or faced with rigor; although to be honest, many neighbors have no other option than to throw their garbage in the already full tanks. What else can they do?

One of the most complex problems is the lack of fuel but the company responsible for the activity has to look for alternatives, especially, the use of animal traction. This option is ineffective and almost non-existent due to the lack of cart drivers. About 659 are required and only 249 work, representing 37.8 percent of those needed. What to do, so?

Although it is recognized that payment must be increased for people willing to undertake the activity with their means of animal traction, lack of money is the argument. But there is more, the specialized transport for collecting the Ampliroll boxes is used in other activities and services.

Another serious problem is the Communal Services and Aqueduct companies' inefficient work system to deal with sewage discharge, which runs through many streets of the capital city.

Las Tunas was always a clean city, which gave a touch of class to its natural beauty. Sadly, for some time now, it has become a city in which dirt threatens not only its image but also the health of its inhabitants. That needs to be changed immediately.
