The inauguration of the event was followed by videoconference

The colleague Nelsy Rubén Larroche, director of Maboas radio station, in "Amancio," receives this year the Rosano Zamora Paadín Award for the Work of Life, the highest recognition of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) in Las Tunas, for her relevant journalistic career and being a creditor of the merits and distinctions of the Cuban Radio.

Nelsy Rubén Larroche, director of Maboas radio station: 2021 Rossano Zamora Paadín Award for the Work of LifeLas Tunas, Cuba.- With the information by videoconference of this award and the "Ricardo Varela Rojas" for the work of the year, in different categories, the Press Event 2021 began, which will run until the 15th, and which this time gives the greatest weight to virtual activities and professional improvement.

Those that in 2020 deserved the Ricardo Varela Rojas Award were: Natasha Díaz Bardón, on television; Misleydis González Ávila, in written press; Rosa María Ramírez Reyes, on radio; Reynaldo Emilio López Peña, in graphics; and István Ojeda Bello, in hypermedia.

Three mentions were also awarded to Danielle Laurencio Gómez, in written press; Karina Zayas Rodríguez, on television, and Yaidel M. Rodríguez Castro, on radio, for the quality of their daily performance.

From the municipal media, the development of this inauguration was followed by videoconference, atypical due to the epidemiological conditions imposed by COVID-19, but which was not an impediment to share ideas and highlight the most valuable work.

Also, in the territories, floral offerings were deposited to the Apostle José Martí in squares and parks; and for the eternal rest of our deceased colleagues who receive posthumous tribute: Leonardo Mastrapa Androín, Elmer Almaguer Paneque and Conrado Vives Anias.

Among the planned activities within the Event are exchanging with students, who receive extensive support from the newsrooms based on the characteristics of the less face-to-face academic year at universities; artistic exhibitions, workshops, and improvement actions accordingly to the requirements of each media.

A peculiarity of this year is also the call, for March 9th, to the Virtual Festival, “Prensa Pública, Prensa del Pueblo” (Public Press, People's Press) conceived as a platform for debate and analysis towards the construction of this press model.

The awards that were announced today, and the Félix Elmuza Distinction, will be delivered on March 12, in a ceremony with reduced participation in the theater of the Radio Victoria station.
