The National Italy-Cuba Friendship Association announced on Friday that more than 50,000 euros have been raised in a campaign aimed at supporting the archipelago's electric energy system.
Las Tunas, Cuba – This is a first success that reflects the strong solidarity with the Cuban people. Under the slogan "Let's turn on the light in Cuba!", the Energy for Life campaign achieved its initial goal thanks to the contributions of individuals, associations, and organizations throughout Italy. The funds will be used to purchase essential products for the operation of schools, hospitals, workplaces, and cultural centers.
"Every contribution, large or small, was a spark that ignited hope, cooperation, and friendship among people," the Association emphasized in a statement. "This first result is concrete proof that together we can make a difference," it stated.
The initiative has the support of, among others, the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL), the Italian Recreational and Cultural Association (ARCI), and the National Association of Italian Partisans (AMPI). The promoters called for continued donations, setting a new goal: reaching 100,000 euros.
With a tradition spanning more than 50 years, the Association has maintained close ties with the Cuban Revolution and has consistently denounced the US economic blockade. Its Lombardy Coordination has maintained a twinning relationship with the province of Las Tunas for 28 years, benefiting more than 100 social and cultural institutions in the area.
This new campaign reinforces that record. Earlier this year, the contributions of Italian activists played a significant role in a fundraising effort that enabled the purchase of batteries for the CT scanner at the Doctor Ernesto Guevara General Teaching Hospital, which is the main healthcare facility in Las Tunas.
