After a review of basic services, the Las Tunas Provincial Government updated the status of several essential sectors for the population. The report reflects outages in electricity, water supply, transportation, food, education, health, and community services, along with the actions being taken by the relevant entities to resolve them.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– The Electric Company reported 110 power outages across the province. In the municipal capital, three on-call vehicles are working: two dedicated to addressing outages and a third focused on replacing damaged transformers. Crews are working continuously in all municipalities to restore service as quickly as possible.
The drinking water supply faces several technical challenges, the report stated. Pumping service from the Cayojo reservoir station has been affected by electrical problems. An internal fault persists at the Piedra Hueca central station, the location of which is still unknown. Diagnosing the fault is complex and could take some days, officials anticipated. In the municipality of Manatí, construction of the new Cerro-Margaritas pipeline is progressing. Meanwhile, in Majibacoa, leaks and difficulties at the Playuela pumping station are being addressed, although the solution could be delayed due to technical limitations and fuel shortages.
In the transportation sector, officials added, three electric vehicles assigned by the Ministry of Transportation were put into service on May 1st. On May 2nd, products from the World Food Programme (WFP) and special diets were distributed in the main municipality.
Transportation service for the health system began, ensuring specialized medical consultations in the southern municipalities. Additionally, a team is working on repairing the ferry for the summer crossing from El Socucho to La Boca. Regarding food, authorities assured that the Wholesale Company and Transportation sector entities will continue delivering 5 pounds of rice per consumer to warehouses, along with WFP products. The Dairy Company will begin distributing powdered milk for children aged 0 to 6 months.
Education has an important guarantee: transportation is assured for boarding students to return to school this Friday.
As for health, medical care for the population is guaranteed. The province has 11 ambulances in service, covering all eight municipalities.
Municipal services guarantee the availability of hearses and coffins. However, the most complex situation remains solid waste collection, affected by fuel shortages resulting from the economic and fuel blockade imposed by the United States government.
“Despite the objective limitations and the impacts of external phenomena, the province of Las Tunas maintains the uninterrupted work of its entities and organizations, in fulfillment of the duty to guarantee care for the people and advance in the solution of the difficulties that arise,” the report concluded.
