Carlos Juan Viera achieved two key wins for the Monterrey Sultanes

The elimination of the Sultanes de Monterrey at the hands of Algodoneros de Guasave, in the playoffs of the ARCO Mexican Pacific League, opened this Monday the possibility that the right-handler Carlos Juan Viera will play with Agricultores in the final of the 1st Elite League of the Cuban Baseball.

This option was activated at the end of the regular phase of the Cuban National Baseball Series when the mentor Carlos Martí announced the inclusion of the ace from Las Tunas in the lime-green team roster. Now, after the 4-0 sweep achieved by the eastern team against “Tabacaleros,” it seems that there is the necessary "timing" for the Agricultores staff to add an unbeatable trump card.

Agricultores’ starter pitchers had four excellent performances against the Tabacaleros lineup. César García, Leandro Martínez, Ángel Sánchez, and Yunier Castillo were solvent on the mound, although the addition of a pitcher of the caliber of Carlos Juan would further enhance the character of the Las Tunas-Granma team as a favorite.

In his first experience with the historic Monterrey franchise, Viera closed the season with two key victories for his team: on the last day of the year, in the qualifying phase, he achieved the success that ensured the ticket to the playoffs; while in the fourth game of the match against Algodoneros, with his team down 0-3, he managed to come out on top again and keep the "Gray Ghosts" alive.

After several years of good performances in the National Baseball Series and the two main circuits of Mexican baseball, Carlos Juan Viera is one of the pitchers included in the list of 50 Cuban players for the V World Classic.

For the moment, however, his closest objective could be helping Agricultores to win the first edition of the Elite League, an achievement that has as an attractive prize that of representing Cuba in the Gran Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series.
