On the playing field, consistency is just as important as power. When it comes to regularity, the Copextel Las Tunas branch's recreational softball team has become a benchmark in the province.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- With a history dating back to 2016, this squad has not only managed to remain active but has also established itself as the most consistent performer in the region's sports scene.
The record for the first nine months of this year could not be more promising. In the five events held in the province, the team has reached the podium every time, securing four first-place finishes and one third-place finish. These results reflect not only the players’ athletic quality but also the spirit of dedication of a group that —despite grueling workdays during the week— finds its moment to shine on the weekend.
Manager Roger Báez has led the squad since its inception. Under his guidance, they have successfully blended experience with youth, featuring key figures such as captain Héctor David Hernández, who leads by example.
On the mound, the duo of Guillermo González and Carlos Sosa has been instrumental in keeping opponents at bay, as the heavy hitting comes from the bats of Samuel Boris, Ángel Sando, Eddy Sander Sánchez, Joel Barroso, and Carlos Pérez. These sluggers are responsible for putting runs on the board.
The team's presence in provincial tournaments commands respect. Each year, the squad participates in a competitive schedule featuring events with a rich tradition, such as the Triumph of the Revolution, ETECSA February 24th, Lázaro Peña (organized by the Central Union of Cuban Workers, CTC ), Sports Supporters' Clubs, the September 28th (organized by the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, CDR), and the July 26th cups; as well as the "Big Four" Super League (held twice a year).
In all these competitions, the Copextel team has consistently finished in the top three, earning them unanimous recognition as the steadiest recreational softball team in the province.
The team's achievements extend beyond the provincial stage. At the company level, the squad currently holds the title of Copextel Corporation Regional Champions for the eastern zone. Also, they are the organization's national runners-up.
