Cuban wrestler Luis Orta: gold medalist in Tokyo 2020

Cuban Luis Orta surprised locals and foreigners today, after winning the 60 kilograms of the Greco-Roman wrestling and winning Cuba's first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In a brilliant way, the athlete from Havana closed with a convincing 5-1 against the Japanese Kenichiro Fumita, two-time and current world champion, the great favorite for the gold medal.

On his way to glory, Orta defeated 5-0 in the preliminary round of American Ildar Hafizov, then, he surprised former world champion Sergey Emelin of Russia when rallied from a 0-3 deficit to win 4- 3.

With this unexpected triumph, the bronze medalist at the Pan American Games ensured his presence in the semifinals, where he destroyed Moldovan Victor Ciobanu by technical superiority 11-0.

Orta's title opened the golden path of Greco-Roman wrestling, which continued a few minutes later with the historic fourth gold medal of Mijaín López, which could be extended with the current Olympic monarch Ismael Borrero.
