The Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), in Las Tunas, met at the 11th Extraordinary Plenary Session, and at the request of the Political Bureau, agreed to release Manuel René Pérez Gallego as its first secretary, who will be assigned other responsibilities.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- At the meeting, chaired by Roberto Morales Ojeda, a member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee, the work carried out by Pérez Gallego in the political organization during 19 years was recognized; of them, almost five heading its ranks in Las Tunas.

When speaking at the plenary session, several members of the Committee expressed their gratitude to the leader, of whom they highlighted his simplicity, exemplarity, and ethics, as well as his management methods to promote political, economic, and social tasks in a stage that was marked by the confrontation with the COVID-19 and the energy contingency.

Pérez Gallego said that he would always remain consistent with his principles and thanked the political cadres of the territory for their support and accompaniment. He also noted his respect for Las Tunas’ people, who have been the main protagonists of all the tasks.

The members of the Provincial Committee promoted Walter Simón Noris as the new first secretary, who worked as a professional member of the Executive Bureau of the PCC for the ideological-political work in the neighboring province of Camagüey.

Simón Noris, 54 years old, has a degree in Physical Culture and completed the Diploma at the National Defense College. He has three decades of experience in political leadership, beginning in the Young Communist League, and was secretary of the municipal committees in Guáimaro and Camagüey.

The new secretary assured that since the first minute, he felt like another Las Tunas-born inhabitant and came to work alongside the people to defend the Homeland, the Revolution, and Socialism.

Morales Ojeda explained that the movement is due to natural renewal and urged the people of Las Tunas to work with higher efficiency to materialize the ideas and guidelines of the 8th Congress, unity, the correction of distortions, and the reinvigoration of the economy.

As part of these goals, he indicated prioritizing food production, price control, the bank restructuring process, the sugarcane program, and renewable energy sources, besides preventing and combating corruption, crime, illegalities, and social indiscipline.
