With the unique students' enthusiasm, Las Tunas kicks off the new 2026-2027 school year. The main event of this return to the classroom took place at the Luis Urquiza Jorge Pre-University Vocational Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE), decorated to welcome its students and the province's main authorities.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– The event had great symbolic and patriotic value, as it was dedicated to the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, whose vision regarding education and knowledge continues to guide every step of the Cuban educational system.
The director of the IPVCE, Damis Batista Rodríguez, explained that the school year begins with an enrollment of 508 semi-boarding students from the main municipality. These will be joined gradually by 185 boarding students from the other territories, who will arrive in the coming days.
Batista Rodríguez emphasized that the institution has a staff of 156 employees and 100 percent teacher coverage, which is fundamental to the quality of the teaching and learning process. In her remarks, she underscored the pride of beginning the school year in an environment where the faculty's preparation and dedication are the cornerstone of educational success.
During the celebration, awards were presented to students who achieved outstanding academic results throughout their schooling, as well as to the IPVCE for its educational excellence. Organizations and institutions that contribute to strengthening the bond between the school and the community through their support were also recognized.

In the eastern province of Las Tunas, the 668 general education schools reopened today, welcoming more than 75,000 students at all levels.
