Health authorities in the province have deployed a comprehensive surveillance and control system to address the current epidemiological situation, which includes everything from active case finding in communities to international health controls.

Las Tunas, Cuba.– The comprehensive strategy includes strengthening surveillance of febrile cases in communities, for which a collaboration agreement has been established with the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).

This community-based work will allow for the timely identification of situations where complexity requires "differentiated action," explained Dr. Yumara Acosta García, director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Microbiology.

In the area of international surveillance, the Center maintains rigorous control over travelers arriving in the province. "In every polyclinic and hospital, when we learn of the arrival of a traveler, whether a staff member, contractor, or for any other reason, we identify, visit, evaluate, and perform the corresponding tests to prevent the transmission of any communicable disease from abroad," she explained.

The basic health teams are trained and qualified for the diagnosis and treatment of dengue and other arboviruses. So far this year, studies of febrile cases have been conducted to detect Oropouche and Chikungunya, although there is no transmission in the province. "Nevertheless, we maintain surveillance to protect, above all, our population," the director stated.
