The Argentine association Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo confirmed today its participation in the 3rd World Forum on Human Rights, which will be held from the 20th to the 24th of March in this capital.

Buenos Aires.- In a press release, the organization stressed the importance of this event and that of the march for the National Day of Memory, Truth and Justice, to be held on Friday, 47 years after the coup d’état that started the last civil-military dictatorship in this country (1976-1983).

The main activities will take place at the Espacio Memoria y Derechos Humanos exESMA (Escuela de Mecanica de la Armada), the Kirchner Cultural Center, the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design, and the Atomic Energy Commission.

More than 150 lectures are scheduled to be delivered among them by former presidents Jose Mujica (Uruguay), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero (Spain), Ernesto Samper (Colombia), and Rafael Correa (Ecuador).

The president of the Abuelas de Mayo organization, Estela de Carlotto, and Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel are honorary presidents of the forum’s organizing committee, which is intended to be a space for plural exchange in which representatives of States and civil society reflect on the human rights agenda at the regional and international levels.

The group will be in charge of the Identity Commission and, together with the National Bank of Genetic Data, the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team, and other organizations, will assist people who have doubts about their origin or have information about someone who could be the child of someone who disappeared during the military regime.
