The President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will arrive in Lisbon, Portugal, the starting point of his first trip to Europe after assuming his third term as Head of State, on January 1st.

Brasilia.- According to official sources, Lula will concentrate most of his agenda in Portugal, where he will hold meetings with authorities, particularly on Saturday with his counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

According to the G1 portal, Lula’s program of activities in Portugal and Spain marks a new stage in the government’s foreign policy, after the president prioritized the main trading partners during his new term trips: Argentina, Uruguay, the United States, China, and the United Arab Emirates.

Ambassador Maria Luisa Escorel de Moraes, secretary for Europe and North America at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters that “the president’s visit is in the context of relaunching relations with Europe and the world”.

She specified that “in Europe, we are going to start with Portugal, it is Brazil’s gateway to the European Union.”Among the issues to be discussed are> the war in Ukraine and the agreement between the Common Market of the South and the European Union.

Lula insists on the creation of a group of countries to mediate peace in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. (PL)
