Leading up to the 2024 general elections, independent presidential pre-candidate Maribel Gordon defended the Life with Dignity project for Panamá, which currently receives growing popular support.

Panamá City.- Gordon, who is one of the three independent candidates with the highest number of support signatures to conclude on July 30, told La Estrella de Panamá newspaper that if she reaches the Palacio de las Garzas, the seat of the Government, she plans to generate real democracy, participation, an adaptation of public power, and will satisfy the people’s basic needs.

The economist added that the basis of the project is to support micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSMs), based on a real policy of promoting those stakeholders, in addition to a share of taxes.

For Gordon, one of her commitments is to build real democracy that has to do with participation, consultation, and a deep discussion on laws that regulate society through an original constituent assembly.

She pointed out that despite the economic growth in Panama, the proportion of salaries has decreased. “Panamá is a country with 37 minimum wages with the size and the population we have.”

She advocated the creation of a structure that reflects the minimum wage and guarantees the cost of the basic family basket and other necessary expenses.

The presidential pre-candidate highlighted the support that she has always received from organizations such as the National Union of Workers in the Construction Industry and the National Confederation of United Independent Unions.

The National Trade Union of Workers in Panamá, the Trade Union Convergence Movement, and other labor union organizations also supported her. (PL)
