Five people - four of them children - lost their lives in the Aegean shipwrecks.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Greece expressed its deepest condolences to the victims of two shipwrecks in the Aegean Sea on Monday.

Athens.- Deeply saddened by the news that five people lost their lives (…) off the islands of Lesbos and Samos, UNHCR tweeted.

An estimated 55 people were rescued, UNHCR added.

Greek Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis stated that four of the five dead were children: an eight-year-old boy and three girls aged 14, eight, and 11 months, according to The Mirror newspaper.
