Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over to Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula Da Silva, the Presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) at the bloc's Summit in this capital on Sunday.

New Delhi.- At the closing ceremony of the great event, Modi gave Lula the gavel as a symbol of the transfer of the leadership of the bloc, which the South American country will assume as of December 1.

In addition, Modi called a virtual summit in November to assess the projects approved during the Summit, which took place for two days in New Delhi.

He also expressed his support for Brazil’s performance at the helm of the group and expressed his confidence in Lula’s work to promote the projects agreed upon by the members of the G20 with dedication and vision in pursuit of global unity and prosperity.

The Brazilian president, in turn, called for peace, cooperation, and unity within the bloc and the banishment of conflicts.

Lula described the leadership of the G20 by the Indian head of State as effective, and the work to organize the Summit was excellent. He also highlights the affection received by the participants since their arrival in India.

He thanked India for its efforts in giving a voice to all emerging countries and welcomed the incorporation of the African Union as a full member of the bloc.

Lula pointed out that for 15 years, the G20 has established itself as one of the main instances of global governance in the face of a crisis that has affected the planet's economy.

The Brazilian president added that joint action made it possible to face one of the most critical moments in the world but it was insufficient to correct the structural errors of neoliberalism.

Therefore, he urged to work to eliminate inequalities in accessing health care, education, and food, as well as in gender and race, which is the origin of all anomalies. (PL)
