
Venezuela's National Electoral Council announced the preliminary results of the elections for mayors and council members, in which the revolutionary and Chavista forces won by majority in the country's leading municipalities.
Caracas.- Elvis Amoroso, President of the entity, explained that with 82.45 percent of the polling stations, more than 44 percent of active voters participated.
Amoroso stated that of 335 mayors elected, 304 positions were awarded with irreversible tendencies, representing 90.74 percent, and of 2,471 councilors elected, 2,182 were awarded with irreversible tendencies, representing 90.84 percent.
He noted that this 33rd election marked a new page in the nation’s history, as well as the National Popular Consultation to elect the best projects, among 37,080 that were approved for the communities.
Amoroso commented that the remaining data and winners will be announced by the electoral boards in each municipality on Tuesday, so that the winners can be proclaimed.
