India described the meeting held in Alaska between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin as highly commendable for the search for peace, according to an official statement.
New Delhi.- New Delhi, which also reaffirmed that the path forward can only be through talks and diplomacy, and asserted that the world wants to see a prompt solution to the conflict in Ukraine, celebrated the long-awaited summit between both leaders.
Although the meeting ended without a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, it appears that the possibility of improving ties between Moscow and Washington is viable.
Regarding the meeting, President Vladimir Putin stated that his visit to Alaska was timely and very useful.
Meanwhile, in a joint press conference, Trump, who described the meeting as very productive, highlighted his relations with Putin as fantastic and promised to speak immediately with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and other European leaders, but noted that there was no agreement on the main issue.
Regarding the meeting, the Indian press expressed hope for a more concrete outcome from the talks between the aforementioned heads of state due to their potential impact on the South Asian country, one of those affected by the additional tariffs imposed by President Trump to punish New Delhi for purchasing Russian oil.
The US president’s measure, which entails a total tariff increase to 50 percent for Indian products reaching the US market, is expected to be activated on August 27.
Likewise, the increase in tariffs by Washington has hampered negotiations between India and the United States for a trade agreement. (PL)
