The United States on Friday revoked the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, accusing him of “reckless and incendiary acts” during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York, held alongside his participation in the United Nations General Assembly.
New York.- On Friday, Petro took part in a large-scale protest against Israel and the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, condemning what he described as the “genocide” of the Palestinian people.
“From here, from New York, I call on all U.S. Army soldiers not to point their rifles against humanity. Disobey Trump’s orders! Obey the orders of humanity!” the Colombian president declared.
Petro’s call followed his appeal to the international community and civilians with military experience to form a “Salvation Army” for the peace and freedom of Palestine, which he said is being besieged by Israeli military forces. “Point your rifles not at humanity, but at tyrants and fascists,” he stated.
“The nations of the world will then contribute trained and armed men and women to create this great army, which must be larger than that of the United States,” the head of state added, urging U.S. veterans to set an example.
He also recalled that the U.S. Army was “exemplary and heroic” when it joined the international fight against Nazism and Adolf Hitler’s authoritarian regime in Germany. “Today, humanity must also rise for the sacred cause of freedom,” he affirmed. (CubaSí)
