Border health surveillance point

The Provincial Defense Council (CDP) in Las Tunas agreed to strengthen health surveillance on travelers who arrive in this territory from the west and center of the country, areas that currently register the highest number of new cases of COVID-19.

In this way, citizens from those regions who do not show the negative result of their real-time PCR test will not be allowed to enter the province. If not, they will be confined in an isolation center to certify through a test of this type that they are not carriers of the SARS-CoV-2.

In this regard, the president of the Defense Council here, Manuel René Pérez Gallego, gave precise indications so that the necessary capacities are enabled in the centers for confinement and ensure that the samples taken from travelers are included among the daily results of the PCR received from the laboratory in the city of Santiago de Cuba. He also directed the improvement of the logistical assurances for those who work at the health control point located on the border with the neighboring province of Camagüey, on the central highway; thus ensuring an adequate inquiry of all passengers or crew of the vehicles that arrive there.

Right now the province of Ciego de Ávila is experiencing a rebound of  COVID-19, which forced its authorities to return to phase one at the provincial capital; while the rest of that central territory regressed to phase two. Likewise, the province of Havana maintains strict measures to limit the movement of its inhabitants in order to stop the chains of contagion that make the country's capital the epicenter of the pandemic.

In the last 24 hours, according to official records, 44 travelers arrived in Las Tunas from the west and center of the Island, a figure that rises to 418, when the analysis period extends to the two weeks prior to this date.

The authorities of the province exhorted the population and mass organizations to continue collaborating with Public Health specialists by reporting on any traveler who may sneak into this territory, as well as ensuring that they comply with the established isolation guidelines.
