10th CDR Congress begins

The 10th Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), Cuba's largest mass organization, begins in this capital from Wednesday to September 28, with the participation of 480 delegates.

Havana, Cuba.- More than 100 guests from all provinces will analyze the organization’s problems with a renewed approach and actions to help the country in the current context.

CDR National Coordinator Gerardo HernándezAccording to CDR National Coordinator and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernández, the meeting will promote initiatives to help the nation in economic issues such as energy saving, food production, popular control, and fighting criminal actions.

It will also increase exchanges with the population and motivate youth to participate in the CDR tasks, Hernández stated in a recent press briefing.

The annual meeting of the Continental Front of Communal Organizations (FCOC) will be held the day after the end of the 10th Congress of the CDR. It is expected that activists from some 12 countries will participate in the FCOC meeting.

CUBA’S LARGEST MASS ORGANIZATION SEEKS TO REVITALIZE ITSELF

Revitalizing its structures and adapting to the new times are the guidelines that lead the work of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), Cuba's largest mass organization.

At the opening of its 10th Congress, which is being held at Havana’s International Conference Center, National Coordinator Gerardo Hernández stressed that the CDRs are working to improve the work of the Cuban Revolution, with its spirit of combativeness and resistance.

Fidel (Castro) designed the CDRs to be a useful and necessary organization in all stages of the Revolution, capable of assuming new tasks and contributing to Cuba’s defense, Gerardo Hernández (Hero of the Republic of Cuba) stressed.

He recalled that the country is going through a complex situation, marked by the consequences of devastating natural phenomena, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba

He explained that the mass organization is working on a process of revitalization and strengthening, which includes the change of the age of membership, modifications in the neighborhood structures, and awarding the status of the neighborhood’s youth to those who stand out in the work in their communities. (PL)
