The Cuban Council of State, at the proposal of President Miguel Diaz-Canel, announced today several ministerial changes in sectors of great economic impact, among them the Minister of Economy and Planning.

Havana, Cuba.- It announced the release of Alejandro Gil from his responsibilities as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, and the appointment of the current Minister-President of the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC), Joaquín Alonso Vázquez, to replace him.

The official release adds that Alonso Vazquez, 60 years old, has a degree in Finance and Credit and a master’s degree in Business Management and Administration, as well as extensive management experience.

The position of Minister-President of the BCC will be held by Juana Lilia Delgado, a graduate in International Economic Relations, who has held different posts in that institution.

The Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez, who has held this position for more than 11 years, was also removed and is replaced by the president of the BioCubaFarma Business Group, Dr. Eduardo Martínez, a biology graduate and deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power.

Manuel Santiago Sobrino, the head of the Food Industry, has also been released from his post, and the current governor of the central province of Villa Clara, Alberto López, will take his place.

“All the comrades released from their respective posts were recognized for their effort and dedication in performing such high duties, and in the next few days they will be assigned new missions,” the release points out. (PL)
