After the application of the crossed death in Ecuador, President Guillermo Lasso began to strengthen his cabinet, which as of today has a Government Council in charge of advising him politically.

Quito.- With the signing of executive decree 744, Lasso appointed former assemblyman Juan Fernando Flores as his new adviser. Flores served as coordinator of the pro-government legislative bloc, initially called Bancada del Acuerdo Nacional (BAN), and later, Bancada Ecuador.

After the dissolution of the Assembly, Flores had already announced that he would support Lasso’s decision with the declaration of cross-death, classified as an unconstitutional mechanism for not having the grounds that justify its application by the magna carta.

Last Wednesday, Ecuadorians woke up with the president’s announcement about the activation of this mechanism provided for in the Constitution that allowed him to dissolve the National Assembly and advance presidential and legislative elections.

As of this Friday, the National Electoral Council (CNE) of the South American nation announced the start of the preliminary process for the anticipated legislative and presidential elections, which have a tentative date to go to the polls in the first round, on August 20, while October 15 would be an eventual second shift.

Before the CNE’s announcement, the Constitutional Court unanimously decided to dismiss the requests to revoke the decision of the Chief Executive.

Even though the mechanism has been classified as a fraudulent resource in the context in which it was applied, many analysts consider that the fact that the current political moment will be resolved by elections is encouraging. (PL)
