Café Cantante Recreation Center

The Café Cantante in Las Tunas began to provide services after a repair and maintenance process valued at six million pesos, which restored comfort to the establishment, available to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, between 8:00 pm and 2:00 am.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to Yamilka Díaz Ayala, Head of the Technical Department of the Provincial Film Centre, "the entrance fee is 50 pesos per person, 150 when professional talents from the province perform and 200 when foreigners perform. Tickets will be sold at the Tunas Theatre box office.

According to the board of directors, the entity - with a capacity for 60 people - provides a gastronomic service provided by a small business, with various types of drinks, such as cocktails, soft drinks, juices..., as well as hors d'oeuvres and food. "We also provide - in the evening hours - a rental service for birthdays, weddings, and other festive activities," she added.

Happy to have recovered the Café Cantante, which was run for a while by Artex and closed in the context of the pandemic, Díaz Ayala explained: "Due to budget problems, we will only perform artistic shows on Saturdays, but with the participation of varied casts, contracted through the company that markets the music and shows BarbaritoDiez. They can be soloists, dance couples, or other artists; we can dedicate a night to jazz and similar initiatives".

Although it retains its normal structure, the building now has a new look, thanks in part to the brothers Rodney and Richard Batista. The former, an architect by profession, told 26: "The work included repairs to the false ceiling, work on the kitchen and bathrooms and the whole bar area to make it functional.

"We tried to make it look more glamorous and that's why, for example, I designed the ceiling lights in the shape of a C, playing with the name of the place. We used recyclable materials in the decoration like PVC pipes. We worked on the DJ booth, on the VIP area, on columns and doors... Indirect lights were incorporated in parts such as the false ceiling, the VIP area, and the bar, to highlight them from a visual point of view and make them stand out in color".

He, who belongs to the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets (FCBC in Spanish), added that - beyond the investment - they were also concerned about the functioning of the consoles (FCBC), the vitality of some furniture and windows, the hydro-sanitary network and other issues, where they detected problems. "The idea was to make it look nice and make a difference," he said.

The Café Cantante is part of the Teatro Tunas cultural complex and, although the latter has not opened in its entirety, this advance is another alternative for the residents of Las Tunas, thirsty for cultural and recreational proposals with quality and systematicity. Let us hope that it maintains its vitality for the common good.
