The september issue of Solo de Poesía pays tribute to Las Tunas City in its new anniversary

Two years after its creation, the promotional brochure Solo de Poesía has become an important publication for showcasing the work of our writers, some of whom are not well known, while also promoting the works of visual artists that accompany its pages.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Launched in May 2023 under the auspices of the Cultura y Tuneridad project, coordinated by intellectual Carlos Tamayo, the initiative has produced more than 20 editions, one per month, which speaks to its serious and consistent work. Espinelas, free verse, sonnets, haikus, and many other types of poetry are reflected there.

Likewise, various topics color its issues, from love, poetry for children, and traditional peasant roots, among others. The September edition, for example, is dedicated to the city's anniversary, the centenary of the Petit Dancé group, bearers of Franco-Haitian traditions, and the 55th birthday of Artistic Education.

Poets Víctor Hugo Parés, Osvaldo Morfa Lima, and Humberto Leyva Pérez dedicate ten-line stanzas to Las Tunas in this Solo de Poesía, where verses such as these converge: "I left in search of another world,/ I crossed roads and bridges,/ between different steps/ I felt an angry weariness./ And I returned like the fertile/ gladiator of sensations,/ the nights of your balconies/ gave me back the moons/ and I was once again, my Tunas, a son with dreams." (Excerpt from Humberto's poem).

Much of the collection in the Solo de Poesía promotional leaflet is available on the Ruthtienda platform, and each new edition is shared on the Facebook page of the Sanlope publishing house.

“This is a publication that inspires the word because it ‘highlights the work done by writers,’” as Ana Margarita Arada Clavería, president of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS in Spanish) in the province, told 26, and “it can influence not only the audience that reads you, but also your own work. That's why I think the initiative is a good one,” added Jessica González Smith. Both young women are treading the paths of literature and, like many others, have found open doors in this Solo acompañado de poesía.

The Cultura y Tuneridad project also organizes exhibitions, conferences, and other activities that contribute to defending the culture and history of the locality, the land of Major General Vicente García and Cuba's greatest popular poet, Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo, El Cucalambé.
