"Tributo" exhibition, in homage to women

The woman becomes a canvas, song, poem ... All of her inspires creation, and not only in her Day par excellence. They are a leitmotif in the cultural work of the province; and today, despite the pandemic, they are reverenced.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- For this reason, the gallery of the Provincial Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) inaugurated this morning the collective exhibition “Tributo” (Tribute) that, besides being dedicated to women, salutes the 60th anniversary of the FMC.

"Tributo" exhibition, in homage to womenWomen and men, children of the arts, shook hands to homage the female figure. Among the participants are creators who leave traces in the cultural tapestry of the region. Names such as Damayanti Mena, Yamila Coma, Gipsy López, Rachel Cruz and Martha Borrell, are obvious in the catalog.

Landscape, surrealism, abstract and other painting trends come together in the exhibition, to the delight of the spectators. With these words, Leonardo Fuentes Caballín, at the head of the Visual Arts branch of the artistic avant-garde at the provincial level, summed up the meaning of the expo: “Creation has not stopped despite adversities.”

"Thus, we present a suggestive motivation, by overlapping a selection of diverse proposals in a tribute of evocations, but above all, of motivations charged with an intense spirituality."

Another exhibition, virtually, arrives today under the title “Entre todas las mujeres” (Among all women). Several institutions, among which the Provincial Council of Plastic Arts (CPAP) stands out, sponsor the initiative that shows the work of Gipsy López, Yamila Coma, Annia López, Damayanti Mena, Janet Gómez, Liusmila Díaz, Daimí Silva and Silvia María Quintana Aguilera.

Exponents from UNEAC, the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and the José Martí Art Instructors Brigade (BJM) appear in the exhibition, where the ladies set themselves up as inspiring muses of performances, photographs, drawings, sculptures, and paintings, according to Othoniel Morffis, president of the CPAP.

“The indispensable value of women in the visual arts is an incentive and a turning point in Cuban and Las Tunas’ art, in a particular way. Expressing all their creative universe, studying from academia and higher level, interacting with other expressions of art, being present at sculpture biennials, teaching, and research, in the most important saloons and being awarded, are reasons to feel pride," also expressed the leader of the Callejón de la Ceiba community project.

He also announced that, throughout the month, promotional capsules from different female artists will be shared, among which are the authors of the current exhibition in cyberspace.

On the other hand, El Cucalambé Ibero-American Center of the Décima has shared, for several days, verses of women poets from Las Tunas with Facebook, a sample of the great talent of local writers.

Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Iraida Williams stars in the concert Ella y yo: nosotras (She and me: we), through Facebook Live. Among the novelties of the meeting is the premiere of a video clip, by director Waldina Almaguer, of the song Criatura aventurera (Adventurous creature).
