Las Tunas University suspended all activities untill further notice.

Las Tunas is rigorously preparing for the imminent passage of Hurricane Melissa, which threatens to impact the eastern Cuban region in the coming hours.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In recent statements, authorities from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education confirmed that preventive measures are being implemented in schools, polytechnical institutes, and universities to minimize risks and ensure the safety of the educational community.

At the University of Las Tunas (ULT), the Board of Directors issued an official statement announcing the suspension of all teaching activities until further notice. Likewise, all teaching, non-teaching, and administrative staff have been advised to remain in constant communication with university authorities through official channels (institutional website, email, and verified digital groups), where updates and specific measures will be provided as the situation evolves.

An essential aspect of the protection plan lies in assisting boarding students who, for various reasons, cannot travel to their places of residence. For them, the University has provided safe spaces and basic shelter conditions, in coordination with logistical support structures and the Civil Defense system.

Similarly, brigades made up of workers and student leaders are participating in the protection of major educational resources, including laboratory equipment, computers, specialized bibliography, and academic documents. These resources, vital to the continuity of the teaching process, are moved to safe areas, reinforced with protection against flooding and wind gusts.

As Hurricane Melissa moves toward eastern Cuba, the Las Tunas population, with their customary spirit of solidarity, strengthens weather monitoring and community cooperation. The educational system, as in every contingency, once again demonstrates its leading role, not only in teaching but also in protecting the territory from the ravages of nature.
