Belonging to the Health area of the Gustavo Aldereguía Lima polyclinic, the Guillermo Tejas Silva grandparents' daycare center was inaugurated in the city of Las Tunas, with capacity for 50 elderly people, five of them with dementia, who will receive specialized care.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Hazel Domínguez Paz, head of the Elderly Program in the Municipal Health Directorate, assured 26Digital that the facility has been designed to guarantee consultations with Geriatrics, Podiatry, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Stomatology and any specialty that is required.

She pointed out that on the upper floor there will be a chair aimed at studying the population group, a school for caregivers and Geriatrics diplomas will be given to training health personnel who will work in the social institutions of the province.

The work, built where the Guillermo Tejas polyclinic once stood, required an investment of 210 thousand pesos. With its opening, there are now two facilities of its kind in the municipality, and 155 elderly people are protected with the semi boarding service.

Domínguez Paz highlighted the importance of this center in a territory that has 41,489 elderly people and a population aging index of 19.8. She also emphasized that one of the greatest challenges faced by medical personnel is to provide careful care to the elderly, at the height of their expectations and needs.
